Description:

This long-standing tradition was continued by writer-traveller Bruce Chatwin who used to buy his moleskines at an old Paris stationery shop in Rue de lAncienne Comedie where he would always stock up before embarking on one of his journeys. Over the years he had developed a veritable ritual. Before using them he would in fact number the pages, writing on the inside his name and at least two addresses across the world, and a message promising a reward for anyone finding and returning the notebook in case of it being lost. He even suggested this method to his friend Luis Sepulveda, when he gave him a precious moleskine as a present for a journey they were planning to undertake together in Patagonia. And there was no doubt as to how precious it was, given that at the time even the last moleskine manufacturer, a small family-run firm of Tours, had discontinued production in 1986. Le vrai moleskine nest plus was the short and curt statement of the owner of the stationery shop where Chatwin had ordered one hundred before leaving for Australia. Despite having literally swept up all the Moleskines he could find, they were not enough. Now, the moleskine is back again. This silent and discreet keeper of an extraordinary tradition, which has been missing for years, has set out again on its journey. A witness to contemporary nomadism, it can once again pass from one pocket to another to continue the adventure. The sequel still waits to be written and its blank pages are ready to tell the story.

5Take NoteOct 23, 2009
It fits comfortably in my jacket pocket. It's always at the ready. I tried many note pads before I found this one. It works. So far I've used up 30 of them. I buy them in bulk now.

5Quality notebook for a premiumApr 12, 2008
I have owned several of these in the past five years. These notebooks are durably constructed and leather bound, have high-quality paper, and are very expensive. The notebook also comes with a fabric ribbon (similar to that you might see in a Bible) for saving your page.

If quality is of premium importance, it's worth the price. If just looking for something to jot stuff down, don't bother.

The marketing campaign for these notebooks claims that people such as Picasso and Hemingway used the same brand. The truth is that the Moleskine brand was registered in 1996, and that the notebooks are fashioned after similar notebooks supposedly used by those people.

In addition to this particular model with lined pages, Moleskine also manufactures notebooks with calendar pages, graph pages, blank pages, etc.

Moleskine notebooks are very popular in the so-called "Getting Things Done" (GTD) community and with artsy-fartsy types.

5perfectNov 13, 2007
i've owned little canvas pocket notebooks with the little elastic bands and all sucked. poor quality. anyway.......moleskine rules. this is my first moleskine but this reporter notebook is so cool. it fits in my back pocket like i've got 2 wallets but very sturdy and bendable. quality. and to my surprise there's a little pocket in the back to store little reference materials. i like making comics and writing songs and designing t-shirts and it all goes here including grocery list and when this fills up then i'll get another. write down your goals here. this is like finding the perfect pen, which for me is the "pilot precise V5" but that's another review.

5High quality, convenientMay 12, 2007
This is a great notebook because of its convenience and quality. It's not a throw-away, but one I use to for important references and information.
