Great Buy!Jul 20, 2010 What can I say, the Uniden DSC-BK Marine Radio is affordable and offers everything a boat owner looks for in a marine radio. We installed it to our 21 foot bass boat, which of course matches perfectly since the boat and interior are black. I highly recommend to invest in an antenna to get better reception and have "piece of mind" that your call will be heard. We went with the TRAM 1610-HC 5-Ft VHF Marine Antenna. Installation was simple and the cables were long enough to reach the antenna and battery. The unit also comes with microphone hanger.
Has a very large well lit display, it can even be seen in direct sunlight. Volume can be really cranked up. We live in New York and are very close to the Canadian border. Every time we are on Lake Erie we are able to hear both the US and Canadian frequencies. I giggle every time I see the distress button since it reminds me of a school fire alarm. You have to flip up the plastic tap to reveal the distress button. According to the instructions, the distress signal can be heard from 20 nautical miles away, or as my husband puts it "20-25 miles as the bird flies".
Now we can feel safe when boating on the Great Lakes. Uniden is know for their reputable products and are built to last.

Marine radioFeb 06, 2010 This appears to be a fine radio. But I did not realize that there were so many components that needed to be purchased before I can use it. I take responsibility for not knowing myself. But the item discription might have alerted me to the fact that there were additional components necessry before I can use it. It is still not up and running because I am having trouble finding the necessary parts. I did not know that I did not know.

Christmas gift.Jan 07, 2010 This was a Christmas present for my son. He won't be using it until Summer, so I can't comment on it yet.

So far, so good!Sep 12, 2009 I bought this for a fixed installation in our sailboat. It comes complete with long wires to hook to power/ground, which is nice.
It was an easy install and it fired right up.
The display is well backlit and easy to read, with large numerals. The user interface is straightforward and easy to use.
I will update this review over time to talk about reliability.
Nice little radio for the price.
